Round 1 of the Scottish Cross Country Series took place at Kirroughtree last Sunday. The Wheelers had a strong team of riders taking part.

Our youngest and very promising rider, Polly Henderson took first place on the podium, in her first race, having stepped up to the older P4/5 category. Adam Hughes had mixed fortunes in his Juvenile race, when he couldn't unclip from his pedal, but battled on to finish in 7th position. Adam has been busy lately, as well as cross country, he is showing promise at downhill mountain biking. Jenna Fenwick also riding in Juvenile, took 2nd place, despite a small problem, when her back wheel fell off during the race.

Our older Youth riders tackled two laps of the course with mixed fortunes. There were about 40 riders in this category. Morgan McConnell in his first two lap race had a steady ride and finished in 19th position, as did Ben Sinden who finished in 22nd place. This is a very encouraging result for Ben, as he has not been racing long. Richard Scales had a trouble free run and came home in 27th place. Ross Green was our highest placed Youth and finished in a creditable 8th . His cousin, Ryan was less fortunate after suffering a broken chain during lap 1 and after fixing it managed to finish in 13th.

Neil McConnell was awarded with a podium place, after finishing an excellent 3rd in the Open race. Our remaining three riders raced three laps in the afternoon in the Veteran category. All did very well, with Paul Crotty finishing in 9th , Jason Sinden in 16th and Sam Sherwin in 23rd .

WELL DONE ALL RIDERS - LOOKING FORWARD TO ROUND 2 AT CONTIN. A WEE BIT FURTHER TO GO!!!
