Drumlanrig SXCDrumlanrig Castle, Dumfriesshire, 30-Sep-2009 Ross wins trophy for 1st local youth to finish Sunday September 20th saw the final round of the SXC series held at Drumlanrig, Thornhill, the home of the Duke of Buccleuch. Another super sunny day meant a mud-free final round to end the season. The Stewartry wheelers were well represented, fielding eleven competitors across the various categories. Primary P1/3 girls: Polly Henderson had another fine first place finish, meaning that she won the overall 1st place in the Championship. Primary P6/7 boys: Adam Hughes had a close race, finishing 2nd, slightly tired after competing in the Juvenile race earlier in the day. Again this result gave Adam the overall Championship in the series, following in the mud tracks of Ryan and Ross, to make it three years in a row for the Wheelers in the overall Scottish Championship. Juvenile Girls: Jenna Fenwick had a very good race and finished in 4th place, meaning that she was a creditable 4th in the Championship for the year. Juvenile Boys: Morgan McConnell rode a steady race ending in a very close finish, to take 6th place with only seconds between him and 4th place, after a sprint finish. This fine result secured him 7th overall in the series. Adam stepped up to juvenile, which he will be competing in next year, and finished an excellent 9th overall, and 11th in the series. Youth Boys: Ryan Fenwick had very hard luck, as when lying 3rd overall, his chain snapped, causing him to run to the technical area for repairs, then carrying on bravely to finish 16th overall. However with 5 races to count out of 7, he still managed to finish an excellent 4th overall in the series. Ross Green had a trouble-free run, finishing in 5th position and securing the trophy for 1st Dumfries & Galloway Youth rider. This result gave him 6th overall in the series. Richard Scales returning to competition with his sleek new bike, finished well in 9th position, and 14th overall in the series, despite having missed a few races. Veteran Men: Paul Crotty had a good tussle with Neil McConnell, who was bravely doing his 1st 4 lap race, finishing 20th and 22nd respectively, with Sam Sherwin finishing close behind in 23rd position. This meant the overall positions were Paul 21st , Sam 48th and Neil 55th.Jason Sinden finished in 14th place in the Master race and this meant he was 15th overall in the series. Drumlanrig had brought another successful season for the Wheelers in the SXC series to an enjoyable finish, and everyone will be looking forward to the 1st race in April, 2010, after a hard winter's training. by Bob Green More Pictures
