NPS Round 5Plymouth, 28-Sep-2009 The final round of the NPS 2009 series was held in Plymouth. What a distance to travel! Bob and I were not too upset to hear that Scottish Cycling were taking a group of children down for this with a couple of extra willing drivers. Think it ended up 4 adults and 17 teenagers! Ryan, Ross and Jenna were all delighted to travel down on Thursday afternoon as this meant missing 1.5 days of school! We waved them off at Gretna about 3.30pm and they arrived at their hostel about 10.30pm. On Friday they did a pre ride of the course and also Ryan and Ross took part in a fun team relay. Newnham Park is a private estate and the course had a mix of killer climbs, fast singletrack and a couple of water splashes. Saturday was race day. Youth riders do 3 laps at the NPS races and Juveniles 2 laps. Jenna although saying she didn't like the course managed a fine 3rd position and a place on the podium. The boys were less lucky with Ross pulling out feeling sick during the race. Ryan was going well when disaster struck and his pedal fell off! However, that's racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They stayed another night and travelled up on the Sunday having enjoyed their weekend. This is the last major race of the 2009 season. Ends. | [NITF] |
