British Championships July 2009

Luckily, the championships were held at our end of the country this year! Most of us went across on the Saturday and did a pre ride of the course. Many of the youngsters had been at a Scottish Cycling camp the week before, so knew what the course was like. I thought it was very technical. In fact, to my disgust on the Saturday I managed to fall off at least 5 times. However, Jenna managed to go round with no problems on either day and didn't fall off once! I thought my reason for pre riding was to look after her, but I think that is no longer necessary!

On the Saturday night Neil raced in the Open Category. He had lots of support and we were all excited when he appeared on the final descent in first place! Our cheers must have put him off, as he fell off not once but twice on the technical last part of the course. Unfortunately, he was overtaken just at the end but managed to hang on to a fine 2nd position. A PODIUM FINISH!!

On the Sunday, Sam retired after 2 laps as he felt the course just a little dangerous for his liking. Jenna finished her Juvenile race in 4th position - slightly disappointed to be out of the medals but really enjoyed her race. Morgan once again had a trouble free ride in the Juvenile race and finished in 8th position. Adam was missing as he was busy carrying out duties as Douglas Lad back home.

In the Youths race Ryan finished in 5th position with no problems. He was the first 'first year youth' finished, so was happy with that. Unfortunately, Ross retired after one lap as he felt unwell and definitely looked it! Richard also retired after one lap with mechanical problems.

It was very tough and demanding course with steep up hills and thrilling downhill paths which were a huge challenge.
