Sunday 29th March, saw the first round of the Scottish Cross Country Mountain Bike Series at Kirroughtree near Newton Stewart. The superb weather ensured a great start to the racing calendar. Several local riders took advantage of the close proximity of the race, including several members of the local Stewartry Wheelers club. Locally placed Stewartry Wheelers included: male veteran class members Paul Crotty and Sam Sherwin, who finished 18th and 29th respectively; female juvenile class member Jenna Fenwick, who had a good race and finished 4th in class; male juvenile class finishers Morgan McConnell at 6th place and Adam Hughes in 8th position; Ryan Fenwick, Ross Green and Richard Scales who in their first year in the strongly contended Youth category, finished in 5th, 6th and 12th place respectively. In the newly formed Open class, club stalwarts Neil McConnell and Ian Fenwick, finished 6th and 10th respectively, in a strong field of over 30 racers. In the afternoon races, male Master class member Jason Sinden finished in 23rd place, and Adam Hughes competed again, this time in the Primary Schools race, finishing in 1st place in the P6/7 category, after leading the field for the entire race. The next round of the championship is at Aberfoyle on Sunday 26th April, where it is hoped that there will again be a good turnout of Stewartry Wheeler members.

By Robert Green ( trainee reporter!!!!)
