SXC ROUND 7 GLENTRESS

Adam sets off in his 1st fun run

Adam sets off in his 1st fun run

Sunday the 21st September was the last race in the Scottish Cross Country Series and our growing number of racers travelled to Glentress near Peebles for this event. The race course was only about 6km long but had a long steep climb to start with followed by a very wet, slippy and muddy technical descent, before climbing again to come down a fast bumpy track with lots of jumps.

Our youngest member Adam Hughes challenged himself by not only entering his usual primary race but also the under 16 fun race which uses a lap of the main course. He did very well finishing both races in 2nd position. Adam also gained enough points to win the p6/7 cup for the 2008 season. Rhys Pritchard also tackled the same two events finishing 9th in the primary race and 6th in the fun run. Not to be outdone by the boys, Jenna Fenwick also did two races , the Juvenile event in which she finished 4th and the primary race where she was 2nd.

We had three male Juveniles Ryan Fenwick won his race and was pleased to make it 7 wins out of 7 races in the series. Ross Green was delighted to be 2nd. Morgan McConnell rode a steady race to finish in 15th place.

Keith Riddick who had to complete 4 laps of the course in the Junior category finished in 5th position. Paul Crotty who rode in the Veteran race finished in 10th position. Liam Warner was 22nd in the Sports category.

We had two riders in the over 16 fun run category who had to complete two laps of the course. Neil McConnell finished in 6th position with the help of some jelly beans and Steve Warner in 23rd.

Now that the races are finished for 2008 our members know their final positions. The clubs highest placing went to Juvenile rider Ryan Fenwick who never lost a race in the series giving him the series title to go with the Juvenile Scottish Champions title that he won earlier in the season. Second place in the Juvenile category could have gone to 1 of 4 riders and on the day 2nd place for Ross Green gave him 2nd place in the series overall, an excellent result for Ross who has improved with every race this year . Richard Scales finished in 6th place having missed the last 3 races due to injury. Morgan McConnell finished in 11th and Rory Bruton 13th. These are good results for their 1st year in this category - look out for these boys next year. Jenna Fenwick was 4th overall in the Juvenile females and again this was her first season. Keith Riddick finished 5th in the Junior section. Other club members including Paul Crotty, Jason Sindon, Liam Warner and Jonothan Chisholm all had some good results at various venues over the series.

Ryan, Ross and Adam will be attending a prize giving next month to receive their trophies.
