Round 6 of the Scottish Cross Country Series was held at Drumlanrig Castle last Sunday in the pouring rain. The weather made the roots very slippy and the paths very muddy. The descent into the arena provided the crowds with plenty of spectacular tumbles due to the conditions. The local venue provided a good opportunity for the Wheelers to gain team points as well as individual points. The club are currently in 2nd position in the team competition.

The Wheelers had two primary school racers in the 6/7 category. Adam Hughes who is leading his age group in the series won his race with ease. Jenna Fenwick was second in her race. She also raced earlier in the day in the Juvenile female category and finished in 4th position.

In the Juvenile male category the Wheelers had Ben Sinden racing for the first time and he finished 23rd overall. Morgan McConnell rode a steady race and finished in 12th position. Our two other boys made it onto the podium with Ross Green in 3rd and Ryan Fenwick in 1st place.

Our adult racers on the day included Neil McConnell who was racing for the first time, in the 2 lap fun category and finished 4th. We are expecting a podium at the next one! Paul Crotty riding in the Veteran category was 12th. Jason Sinden came home in 10th position in the masters category. In the sport category Jonathan Chisholm was 15th and Liam Warner a creditable 10th. Ben Smith riding in masters had to retire due to mechanical problems and Keith Riddick finished a lap down in 8th place.

The final race of the series takes place later this month at Glentress Forest, Peebles. The club will welcome back Richard Scales who will be back racing after his accident in the summer.
