Wheelers Host Round 2

Sunday 4th May saw a good turn out of mountain bike racers descend on Dalbeattie Forest for round 2 of the Scottish Cross Country series. There was a good turn out for all categories, with well over 100 riders.

Local club The Stewartry Wheelers had their usual turn out of riders who all faired well on home ground. Local knowledge helped the juvenile riders to finish with 3 in the top 4 positions Ryan Fenwick taking gold, Ross Green taking bronze and Richard Scales in 4th. Rory Bruton raced well to finish in 8th position but unfortunately for Morgan McConnell after a fall he had to retire. Jenna Fenwick raced her first juvenile race and was pleased to finish in 2nd position. She also took a class win in the upper primary category. Adam Hughes finished in 3rd position despite a couple of unlucky falls in the upper primary race for boys. Keith Riddick riding in junior men finished in 4th position and Murdo Bruton riding in youths came home in 10th place. Due to the rain, the courses in the afternoon were quite slippy and churned up, making conditions more difficult in what was an already technical and testing course.

Two of our newest adult members also took part with Jason Sinden finishing 29th in the masters category and Paul Crotty finishing in 10th position in the veteran category.

The Wheelers would like to say a big thank you to the following who kindly donated prizes for the Primary School Races, MPG Cycles, CD Cycles, Grierson and Grahams and the 7 stanes. The club would also like to thank Ballards for providing excellent catering and WC in Fields for their services. Thanks also to our first aid provider Event First Aid and Rescue and also all the marshals who gave up their Sunday to help out.
