Things that go bump in the night

HALLOWEEN RIDE 2007 Wednesday 31st October saw a number of Stewartry Wheelers turn up in the gloomy dark car park at Dalbeattie Forest for our usual daunting ride through the murkiness of a thick shadowy forest on the night when some say ghosts and witches might appear. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Some 17 riders set off into the night hoping to make it back. Fancy dress was optional and we had a variety of costumes' a rabbit, a skeleton, a vampire, Tom and Jerry, Three Little Pigs and even William dressed as a cyclist!!!!!! As usual the pace was not slow but it was a spectacular sight to see 17 set of lights snaking their way along the singletrack among the trees. Things always appear different in the dark, what was that noise? what’s that behind the tree? and did you see that! These were all thoughts going through our minds, as we came off the northshore section to head up the forest road and made our way up to the top of the Moyle and along past the top of the Slab. We continued down to the beech trees and split into two groups, as some lights were starting to fade. We rode for over an hour and enjoyed some treats in the car park on our safe return. All in all, an enjoyable evening. Hope to plan more night rides this winter, encouraging to see such a turn out.
