SXC Results 2007

The SXC Series came to an end on Sunday 23rd September at Glentress. This has been a good season for all our young mountain bike racing team. Not so good from the report writer though, as I am a bit behind but here are the results from the last 3 races.

On Sunday 29th July there was a great turn out at Contin near Inverness. It had been wet and the course was very muddy. Our riders did themselves proud and after all the roots, hills, steep drops and did I mention mud, Ryan finished 2nd in a time of 34:12, Ross 7th in 38:10 and Murdo 9th in 42:16 . We had 3 racers in the primary schools races as well and champion of the day was Rory who was 1st in the p6/7 boys race, Jenna was 2nd in the p6/7 girls race and Adam was 2nd in the p4/5 boys. All in all, a good days racing at a venue so far away.

Back nearer home for the next round, on August 26th our intrepid team battled the slippery roots of Drumlanrig. A few of our racers took advantage of a skills course organised by Scottish Cycling on the Saturday and Sunday morning before the race. Ryan had his best result of the season finishing 1st in a time of 24:25 , he couldn’t wait around for his medal though as all our juvenile boys and Keith headed off after their races to Kirkcudbright to take part in the crit. Ross finished 4th in 26:39, Murdo 6th in 26:58 and Richard 7th in 27:25 . Younger riders Rory Bruton and Jenna Fenwick took part in their first under 16 Fun race and both did really well to complete 1 lap of the full race circuit. Rory shone and finished in 1st place in a time of 33:47 and not far behind in 35:29 was Jenna who was 2nd overall and 1st girl. Later that afternoon we had four racers in the primary schools race, Rory was at it again and was 1st in p6/7 boys with new member Morgan McConnell 4th in the same race. Jenna was 2nd in her race and Adam Hughes took 1st place in the p4/5 boys race. The final race of the season took place on Sunday 23rd September and was at Glentress. Once again we had a great turnout of riders. Ryan finished 2nd, having raced the last round of the NPS in Wales on the Saturday finishing 7th in that, Ross finished 5th less than 2 minutes behind and Richard was 9th. Our younger riders put in a solid performance once again in the primary schools races, Adam Hughes had a close fought race to finish 1st in the p4/5 boys, Rory Bruton finished 2nd and Morgan McConnell 3rd in the p6/7 boys and Jenna Fenwick 2nd in p6/7 girls race.

The series results were totalled and Adam Hughes and Rory Bruton both won their categories and Jenna Fenwick was 2nd in hers. The final standings in the Juvenile series were:- Ryan Fenwick - 2nd 155points Ross Green - 6th 111points Richard Scales- 9th 89points Murdo Bruton - not listed no license

Keith Riddick who raced the season for Drumlanrig . com finished 6th overall in the youths series.

The club should be proud of all our young riders and their commitment and efforts throughout the season. They have promoted the distinctive lion jersey the length of the country and did themselves proud. We look forward to next season which kicks off again on 6th April at Laggan.
