Hardrock Challenge 2007

Saturday 29th September saw a number of our younger members take part in the Junior Hardrock Challenge in Dalbeattie Forest. The first race was the 8-11 year olds which was a 500m run and 3km cycle. Taking part was Morgan McConnell, who did both the run and the cycle and finished 1st overall in the age 10-11 section in a time of 17.03mins. Jenna Fenwick paired up with runner Amber Scott and Adam Hughes paired up with Nicolas Sharpe in the 10-11 pairs section. Adam and partner were first in 15.32 mins, Jenna and partner were second in a time of 16.10mins.

The next races were 12/13 years and 14/15 years. They had to run 3km and cycle 8km. But unfortunately, due to marshal error, they ended up running much further, which made it even more of a challenge! We had three individual entries from the club. Ryan Fenwick did really well to be second runner back and followed this with a fast cycle to take first place overall in the whole section in 45.48mins. Ross Green stuck at it and finished a well deserved second place in 51.35mins. Sally Warner competed in the 14/15 age group and was 3rd in her section.

In the pairs, Richard Scales and partner were first overall, in a combined time of 49.52mins. Murdo Bruton and his partner were second in 51.51mins. Murdo suffered a spectacular fall during his cycle and suffered a black eye, bruising and cracked his helmet. Well done to all our young riders, as all entries from the club got a trophy in their particular section.

On Sunday 30th September the senior event took place. Our only individual entry doing both the run and cycle was grand vet. Bob Green. Bob finished 22nd overall which was a great achievement. We had a number of entries in the pairs. Andrew Crooks and Steve Warner paired up with Andrew running and Steve cycling. They finished 19th male pair. Other club members and their running partners finished in the following positions:-

Jock Armstrong 5th Keith Riddick 7th Ian Fenwick 9th Stewart Robertson 27th Kevin Scott 31st Alison Crooks had a bad fall and had to retire from the event. There were about 160 participants on the day.
