Stewartry Wheelers

Stewartry Wheelers is a club for cyclists in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. We aim to cater for cyclists of all ages and inte rests, organising social rides, time trials and races both on road and off.

The Stewartry is a wonderful area for cycling, with magnificent scenery, quiet roads and several Olympic- quality prepared mountain-bike routes.

The 7/24 challenge ride for teams of up to four cyclists starts from Glen Trool visitor centre at 11am on 17th June 2006 and ends at Glentress twenty four hours later. The event is organised by Stewartry Wheelers with assistance from Upstart Solutions.

7/24 gets its own website

Thanks to the generosity of Stuart Common of TrailScotland.com, the 7/24 challenge now has its own website.

Seven teams complete 7/24 Challenge

Twenty-seven cyclists in seven teams competed in this year's Stewartry Wheelers 7/24 Challenge, across 400 kilometers and all seven 7stanes centres. All seven teams successfully met the challenge, completing the course inside 24 hours.

7/24: We did it

At five minutes past eight on Sunday morning Janet Andrews-McKay of the Stewartry Wheelers team rode back into the trailhead at Glentress Forest, Peebles, to complete the inaugural running of the 7/24 Challenge Ride in a blistering 21 hours five minutes.

7/24: The Roadie's View

It’s now past midnight and I wonder what on earth we are doing. I’m exhausted, I’ve ridden all day and I’m now in the middle of nowhere, in the dark trying to ride the Seven Stanes within 24 hours for no particular reason, its not an official event, there are no crowds, no prizes, I’m a adult with a sensible job, in a nice house with a wonderful wife. In flash it strikes me exactly why I’m doing this. I grin at Simon my ‘team support’ sitting in his jeep, knowing that when I finish, he is riding through the dawn towards the finish, no one to keep him company but a few close friends. Of course this is why we are doing it.
